Emergency Services Corps Member (AmeriCorps)

The Emergency Services Corps (ESC) is a team of AmeriCorps members who commit to a year of service with the county’s volunteer fire companies. Educate the public about the needs of and services provided by the volunteer fire service, recruit more volunteer fire fighters and help to retain current volunteers. Be active in your community, educating children about fire safety, teaching first aid and CPR skills to community members, and participating in a wide variety of community events. Be trained as a firefighter and have an opportunity to serve alongside other volunteer firefighters on emergency calls.

Members complete 1700 hours of service and receive $12,400 living stipend, health insurance, child care assistance (if eligible), student loan deferment, and a $5,350 education award upon completion of service. Members also receive a free YMCA membership.

Prisoner Reentry VISTA Positions

Six agencies in Wilmington, Delaware are hiring seven Americorps*VISTA members to work on various prisoner reentry projects beginning in February, 2010. VISTA members are full-time volunteers who receive a monthly stipend ($900), health insurance, and a cash or educational award at the end of one year of service. Foster Grandparent Program

Sound like you? Foster Grandparents serve up to 40 hours a week offering emotional support, tutoring, mentoring and more to disadvantaged and disabled youth. Some volunteers may qualify to earn a tax-free, hourly stipend of $3.45 per hour. Foster Grandparents will also recieve transportation reimbursement, a free annual physical and supplemental accident and liability insurance while on duy. Want to make a difference in our community? Join the Caring Corps, a partnership with AmeriCorps and The Ministry of Caring Inc. As a Caring Corps member, you will work to improve the lives of those less fortunate in a non-profit setting, in a job that fits your interests and abilities. In return, you will gain valuable job skills; a living allowance of over $10,000; health insurance coverage; day care assistance, if needed; and an education award of nearly $5,000 upon successful completion of a term of service (about 11 months in duration). Best of all, you’ll make new friends, broaden your world, and have the satisfaction of knowing that you have done something that really matters!
