Help your local Red Cross communicate the importance of being prepared for emergencies to civic groups, church groups, companies and other organizations. Training is provided with the Be Red Cross Ready curriculum.Teach the three basic actions of Building a Kit, Making a Plan and Being Informed. Presentations can range from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the group’s time frame. Traveling Librarian

Read-Aloud Delaware has a new volunteer opportunity as a traveling librarian focusing on licensed home-based childcare. On a monthly basis volunteer traveling librarians will rotate a lending library of books between several childcare homes in their area. The traveling librarian will also demonstrate appropriate reading strategies and support home care providers with effective reading practices. Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

The Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford location is accepting applications for a part-time assistant to the Volunteer Coordinator. This position would be responsible for assisting the Volunteer Coordinator in organizing and overseeing volunteers. In order to be considered an applicant should courteous and be able to communicate well with staff, volunteers and the public and serve as a good representative of the Food Bank in the community. They should be detail oriented, flexible and have basic math skills. Qualified applicants should have a clean driving record and be able to pass a drug screening. Additionally they should be able to lift 50 lbs and be comfortable working in a warehouse environment, with experience with warehouse equipment a plus. This is a seasonal position, though it could become permanent dependent on the needs of the organization.

A Volunteer Fair Is Coming To Your County This April

Delaware's celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 18-24) will culminate with volunteer fairs in each county on April 24th. Discover the volunteer opportunities available in your local community and meet Delaware's First Lady, Carla Markell. Events are sponsored by the State Office of Volunteerism, RSVP and local partners. Limited display space is still available for nonprofits.
